So what is involved with buying or selling in today's real estate market?
It used to be that you had the complications of negotiating, title policies, home warranty programs, legalities throughout the transaction, inspections, repairs and making sure you have everything completed by closing. Those things are still part of the real estate transaction, but in today's world, you have to add bank approvals, waiting time for short sales, submitting a short sale package and if you're selling a home that is not a short sale, you have to be able to figure out how your home should be valued in comparison to the others in your neighborhood.
If I consult a real estate agent, can I expect that he/she will recommend selling my home or buying right away?
NO absolutely not. A good agent will actually consult with you, consider your situation, and give you professional advice specific to meeting your needs and goals. If you talk to an agent who is acting like a salesperson instead of a consultant, keep looking. There are plenty of qualified agents right now who would be happy to help you meet YOUR needs, not theirs.
